The American West was full of legends -- some about lawmen - Wyatt Earp and Bat Masterson, and others about outlaws such as Jesse James, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid and The Dalton Brothers.  After looking at some of the websites containing information about these people, did you think that they deserve to be put in the next generation's history books??? Why or why not???

Following up our discussions regarding slavery in class:

Go to www.gilderlehrman.org

Go to the unit entitled "Slavery" and browse the documents contained therein.

Our discussions will focus on how primary documents help us understand history.  When Abraham Lincoln met Harriett Beecher Stowe, the author of Uncle Tom's Cabin, he stated "So you're the little lady that started this war."  Discuss whether you agree or disagree that the issue of slavery started the Civil War?  Cite from the documents you find on the Gilder Lehrman website above to support your answer.
